Easy Travel
UX Design - School project, 2020 & 2022
The Easytravel app provides travelling inspiration and allows users to book everything they need for their trip, including transport, accommodations, and tickets for activities.
I created this design in 2020 and updated it in 2022 after graduating in Digital Content Design.
The problem
Travelling is an amazing experience that allows you to discover new places, cultures, and people. However, trip planning can be a stressful and time-consuming task, involving checking multiple websites to find the cheapest flights, best accommodations, and museum tickets.
I believe there is a need to simplify trip planning and create a more user-friendly experience to reduce stress and save time.
Goals
-
Develop an app that guides users through the entire trip planning process, from transportation to activity planning.
-
Offer various transportation options, not just by plane, to allow users to choose more sustainable options.
-
Create a design that is calming yet still engaging.
Design process
How it started
This project began in 2020 when I observed my own experience with trip planning. I realized that I found it stressful and time-consuming, and I wished there was an app that could show me all the options and book everything I needed. With that in mind, I sketched how I wanted the app to work.
At that time, I had just started studying digital design and didn't know much about research or the design process, so I went directly to creating the wireframes in Adobe XD. Then, I chose some colors that I liked and created a prototype.
Revision in 2022
After graduating in Digital Content Design, I revisited this project and realized that I still liked the idea, but the design needed an update.
To start, I conducted a competitive analysis and examined well-known travel apps. This gave me new insights and a clearer vision.
Problems with the old design:
-
The design had accessibility issues.
-
The color scheme was too dull.
-
It lacked a unique or modern feel.
Aspects I liked from the previous design:
-
The layout.
-
The three-step process.
-
The ability to like and save.
With this in mind I created a persona and I learned more about accessibility.
After that, I created an app site map and I started wireframing.
Results
To make the experience less stressful, I made several changes to the app's design. First, I changed the color palette to follow accessibility guidelines and create a more accessible experience.
The new color palette consists of different shades of green. The darker blue-greens evoke a sense of calmness and safety, while the brighter greens provide contrast and add a touch of fun and optimism. This color scheme also helps distinguish CTA buttons from other buttons.
To add more personality to the app, I included custom illustrations made by Moyos that I edited to fit their purpose within the design.
Final thoughts
Throughout the design process, I learned the importance of accessibility and how it can affect users in ways that aren't always apparent. I am proud to have achieved the goals I had set for this design, but improvements could be made through user testing, in-depth competitive analysis, and usability testing.
